The central theme of GlobaLocal is the effect globalization has on North-South relations and on ecology today.
Under the moto “Think Global, Act Local” we give the matter globalization more attention, both on a social as on an ecological level.
Social: Globalization is becoming more and more of a norm to mankind. Cultures and social differences are mixing themselves more and more. This can be a good thing if we learn to live together and respect eachothers differences.
Ecological: The movement of people and the transport of goods locally to globally has its influences on our ecological system. GlobaLocal wants to make people aware of the effect their lifestyles have on the ecological system and what we can do to save what is left of it today.
But it can’t all be to serious… We want to give a diverting character to our project. Therefore we organize benefit events which focus on the cultural aspect of a certain country. To do this we will organize live music performances, film, decoration, dance, dj’s, workshops, exhibitions, world kitchen… and anything else that can bring cultural awareness to our public.
With our first edition of GlobaLocal we have chosen to put India in the spotlight, and focus ourself on social development projects. We will do this in cooperation with vzw Nanri, an organization which supports development projects in India and Nepal. All projects supported by Vanakam involve children who, without these initiatives, could end up on the streets as beggars or in child labor. Together with vzw Nanri we will make sure that all financial and material profits made during our benefit events will integrally go to the projects in India and Nepal, and will be used wisely!
